Rea Irvin (1881-1972)

A family outing in the country.

Illustration, 1926;

Watercolor, 8 x 5.6" not signed.
Condition is overall very good; some toning with age; archivally matted and in a narrow gilt frame.

Irvin was the art editor of The New Yorker in its early years, and this drawing probably appeared there.

Autos finally became affordable to the average family by 1920, and this utterly changed the mobility of people and where they went on vacation.
