Three illustrations for a magazine article: “Toilers in the Playground”, author: E. Phillips Oppenheim, The Mentor, May 1930;
Ink line and wash, ca. 15 x 15" (grouped) none signed.
The smaller scenes are 5.1 x 6.5" each, and each half of the larger measures 8.3 x 6.3" Condition is overall good, with glue residue, and light toning with age. Archivally matted and minimally framed.
The article tells in somewhat flowery prose about then-contemporary life on the Riviera, especially how and where the writers and celebrities lived. The blank space covered by the mat in the center of the garden scene was deliberately designed to prevent the drawing from being lost in the magazine page's ‘gutter’.
