Sketch for unpublished magazine cover, The New Yorker, ca. 1955;
Watercolor and ink, 11.5 x 9" signed lower right. Condition is good overall: residue of scotch-tape along top edge verso; archivally matted in a metal-sectional frame.
Provenance: estate of the artist.
A marginal note by the artist proposed: “would not show any human beings”. Over the course of some 40 years, Price had 99 New Yorker covers published. Altogether, he probably submitted over a thousand idea sketches, of which this is one.
