06. Arthur Finley
Woman gardener pausing with hoe at moonrise.
Probably unpublished magazine cover, probably House & Garden; publisher: (Condé Nast), ca. 1915;
Gouache, 16.5 x 13" signed verso.
Condition: Overall good to very good: paper is brittle, and has a few marginal tears; a couple pinholes, stray pencil marks, and tiny stains; archivally matted, white-gold frame from Gala Framing.
The intended publication and date is a guess, based on the artist having worked for other Condé Nast publications. The artist's name is written verso, covered by label from The Woodruff Art Service. That suggests that the work was done on spec, and that the artist may have had little or no interaction with the art editor.
Provenance: From the collection of Louis Lundborg, president of the Bank of America during the 1970s.
